What is Invisalign?
Invisalign are teeth aligners designed with 3D imaging technology so that the proper course of orthodontic treatment can be more accurately predicted. Constructed from a thermoplastic material, these clear teeth aligners are removable, invisible and offer an alternative to more traditional wire braces. Invisalign will help you restore a beautiful smile without the unattractive, painful and hard-to-care for metal braces. This form of treatment has grown in popularity with over 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada receiving certification to treat their patients with Invisalign.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?
Never mind the social stigma that is sometimes associated with wearing braces, they can also be quite uncomfortable to wear and difficult to clean. Both of these problems are solved with Invisalign. These clear aligners straighten your teeth like metal braces, but they contain no wires that can poke the inside of your mouth and cause soreness and irritation. Since they are removable, there are no restrictions on what foods you can eat. You also remove them to brush your teeth, which is not an option for the old metal braces.
WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES?
Since the Invisalign aligners are removable, it is up to the patient to wear them for the proper amount of time. The success of the treatment rests with you. If you are committed to having straight teeth and a beautiful smile, then this should not pose a problem.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each set of Invisalign teeth aligners are worn for a period of about two weeks, after which you are fitted with the next set in the series. With each set, your teeth are being repositioned. You’ll be visiting the office every six weeks, so your progress can be monitored. After a treatment time, ranging from 9 to 15 months, the process should be complete, but times do vary among individuals.
